How to Find a Financial Advisor You Can Trust in Niagara Falls

Have you ever heard the phrase “What you don’t know can’t hurt you” or “Ignorance is bliss”? Well, believe it or not, these phrases ring truth to your portfolio.

What You Don’t Know About Your Portfolio May Help You

So, how to find a financial advisor in Niagara Falls? Now, let me start by saying, when it comes to your finances and your planning, you should know exactly what’s going on and have a deep understanding of why your plan looks the way it does. But, when it comes to certain things that are out of your control, and for that matter, out of anyone’s control, it’s best to shut your mind off to all of the noise.
Yes, I am talking about the volatility we are seeing in the market, and yes, I am telling you to ignore all of the doom and gloom the media wants you to read and hear.
What’s going on in China, the price of oil, interest rates, housing prices, whether or not Steve Avery is innocent (shout out to all you Making a Murderer fans), are all examples of things that are out of your control. No matter how much you think/talk/stress about it, it’s not going to change the eventual outcome of what’s going to happen in the marketplace. For more things to remember during stock market turmoil read these 6 Tips for Investors.
In situations like these, finding a good certified financial planner to relieve your stresses is crucial. You should always have faith that the plan you developed with your Financial Advisor was built for these volatile times, and if you are in a well diversified portfolio you will come out of this much better than the majority of investors across the continent.

A Different Approach to Financial Planning

I was recently at a conference in Toronto and had the pleasure of listening to a fantastic message for about an hour and a half from a fellow CFP from Utah. Carl Richards, is the creator of the “Sketch Guy” column in the New York Times, and is a columnist for Morningstar Advisor.  His common sense approach to money and financial planning is one of the most refreshing I have ever heard.  Don’t be surprised if you see me reference his columns many more times in the future.

In this particular New York Times column, he touches on the fact that the more you check the stock ticker, the more negative you are going to feel about the stock market in general and most likely your own investment portfolio.  No matter how much you stress about it, it won’t change the outcome.

“Benign neglect, bordering on sloth, remains the hallmark of our investment process.”  – Warren Buffet

Here is arguably the greatest investor of all time talking about how boring the Berkshire Hathaway investment process is.  I know buying a well diversified portfolio at a low cost isn’t the “sexy” thing to talk about, but if the simple approach to investing is good enough for Warren Buffet shouldn’t it be good enough for all of us? I think so.
